much sorrow（许多伤心事）和many sorrows都可以说。a sorrow是“一件伤心事”。但下面各句里的sorrow指“伤心”或“懊丧”，是抽象名词，前面不可加a，也不可改作复数形式：

• They all felt sorrow for it.
• He left the place with sorrow.
• She showed sorrow for her misconduct.
