1.统说“社会”在society前面没有the，注意下面每组里的两句意思不同：
- We are all members of society.(我们都是社会的成员。)
We are all members of the society.(我们都是这个会社的会员。) - You ought to work for the welfare of society.(你该为了社会的福利而工作。)
You ought to work for the welfare of the society.(你该为了这个会社的福利而工作。)
下面各句里的society作“社交界”解，并不统指“社会”：
- These accomplishments fit one for society.
- She was introduced to society only a short time ago.
- Such men as Mr Shipley always shine in society.
- This is a busy week for society.
2.说“新社会”和“旧社会”，前面通常用the，如the new society和the old society。可以说a classless society，this matrilineal society，feudal societies等。
