1.the public（大众）被当作单数或复数都可以。例如：The public is favourably impressed with the new policy.和The public are favourably impressed with the new policy.

2.public school在英国指公学，它们的学生大都是寄宿生或寄膳生，教育他们使他们预备入大学或公务机关。在美国、苏格兰和英国的属地指公立中学和小学，跟英国的council school相当，通常是免费的。
