1.the pictures统指“电影”，比较下面两句：

• He likes pictures.（他喜欢图画。）
• He likes the pictures.（他喜欢电影。）

有时也指“电影院”。例如：It was very stuffy in the pictures.

2.a long picture是“一部长影片”，a short picture是“一部短影片”。
