1.an alley off the street等表达方式里的off作leading out of解，不可改作of。

2.well off, badly off, comfortably off, poorly off等表达方式里的off被看作副词或形容词都可以。也可以说How are you off for money today（你今天的经济状况怎样）。

3.下面第一句里的of和第二句里的from都是多余的，这种多用的of主要用在美国，多用的from主要用在英国：

• I lifted the big volume off of the shelf.
• I left off from work at six o'clock.
