1.下面三句都可以说：
- The pond is very like a mirror.
- The pond is much like a mirror.
- The pond is very much like a mirror.
形容词like后面原来接to，但现在省去了to。
2.like（动词）在单独用的时候指经常的爱好，不指一时的爱好，如可以说I like it，不可说I like it today。I should like to see him tomorrow等句子里的should不可省去。用would也普通，但在“标准英语”里不算正当。
3.like后面接不定式和动名词都有，下面几点该注意：
（1）说一时的爱好只可用不定式，不可用动名词，如He would like to dance with us tonight里的to dance不可改作dancing，I should like to see him at once里的to see不可改作seeing。
（2）说经常的爱好用不定式或动名词都可以，如He likes to dance和He likes dancing。
（3）说经常的爱好，对于简单的动作或情况用动名词比用不定式普通，如He likes dancing比He likes to dance普通，She likes being read to比She likes to be read to普通。但对于复杂些的事，用不定式比用动名词普通，如He likes to see his children at play比He likes seeing his children at play普通，He likes to work far intio the night比He likes working far into the night普通。
4.like作“喜欢”解，但not like在“并不喜欢”以外还有“厌恶”的意思，如假定你并不喜欢看见某人，但也并不厌恶看见他，便不该说I do not like to see him，该把like改作care。
5.like在单独用的时候指经常的爱好，不指一时的爱好，但don't like和didn't like往往指一时的“不肯”或“不愿”。例如：I don't like to disturb you. 和He stayed outside because he didn't like to interrupt us. 比较下面两句：
- He didn't like to go with us, and so he stayed behind.
- He didn't like going with us, though he did do so.
6.下面每组里的两句都可以说，第一句语气重些：
- I like my tea strong.
I like my tea to be strong. - I should like a list of new books sent regularly to me.
I should like a list of new books to be sent regularly to me.
7.like（动词）后面有时接以that引导的从句。例如：I like that you write to me frequently. 和I should like that you should write to me frequently. 请注意这种结构不很普通。第二句里的以that引导的从句里用should。
8.I should like for you to write to me frequently里的for是多余的，最好删去。
9.比较下面三句：
- I like you to write to me frequently.
- I like your writing to me frequently.
- I like you writing to me frequently.
第一句着重在“我喜欢”这原则，第二句和第三句着重在“你时常写信给我”这事实，严格地说，第三句不及第二句正当。
10.I like him比I have a liking for him语气重些。
11.不可说She is as like as her friend，该说She is like her friend。照字面讲，She is as like as her friend是“她的像（某人）正如她的朋友的像（某人）”。
12.把like用作连接词是常有的。例如：He studies English very hard, like he did Chinese some years ago. 依照“标准英语”该把like改作as。
