industry有时统指“工业”，有时指一种“工业”，“多种工业”用industries。例如：Industry is of more importance than commerce. 和He is in the cotton industry. 注意第二句里有the。heavy industry（重工业）和light industry（轻工业）也是这样。
industry有时不指“工业”而指各种“行业”，如the shipping industry和the broadcasting industry。也可以说Hunting，fishing，and farming were the industries of these people。但单用industry总是指“工业”，不指其他“行业”。
