1.free from和free of作“没有…的”或“免于…的”解，free from普通些。但在charge（费），duty（税），rent（租金）等词前面习惯用free of。
2.free（动词）的宾语后面用from比用of普通。例如：We freed him from（或of）his obligation. free the river from pollution
3.I am to receive, free, a copy of the book里的free是副词，作“免费地”解。近几年来也有把for free代free的。例如：I am to get a copy of the book for free. 注意He will give it free（他将免费把它送给人家）和He will give it freely（他将大量地把它送给人家）两句意思不同。
