excellent是“极好的”，具有肯定意义，表示说话者的强烈意见。只能用在肯定句里，不能用在否定、条件、疑问等句子里。如可以说This is an excellent book。但不可说：
- This book is not excellent.
- Is this an excellent book?
- If this is an excellent book, I should like to read it.
- Can you recommend an excellent book?
- I want to read some excellent books.
