1.chat通常不用作抽象名词，如I should like to have a chat with you里的a不可省去。用作抽象名词通常含有“话长道短”，“大言不惭”等意思，如They were in excellent spirits and full of chat和Let me have none of your chat。

2.chat有时指“非正式的演讲”，如a chat on Chinese music。
