1.alert（机警的）用作定语形容词现在很普通。例如：an alert man, his alert attention和an alert fancy

2.alert用作动词作“促使…提防”解，有时在它的宾语后面接以that引导的从句。例如：The villagers alerted the traveller that wolves might come out in the night.
