About a quarter of the world drives on the left side of the road in right-hand drive cars. The countries that do are mostly old British colonies. It would be almost impossible for Britain to change to right-hand drive. And this strange quirk of driving on the left really puzzles the rest of world but there are a few, perfectly good, reasons why.

In the violent feudal past, just like today, the majorities of people were right-handed and carried their swords in their right hands. As we walked around, general thinking was that when two people passed each other, they did so with their sword arms between each other. Sometime later in 1773, the UK Government was forced to introduce the General Highways Act which included a recommendation to keep to the left. This went on to be included in the Highways Bill of 1835.
