从拼写上来看, implore 是一个与常见单词 explore, deplore 等都是以 lore 结尾的单词,几者可以一并联想记忆。
从词源上来看, implore 于16世纪50年代经法语 implorer 或者直接由 implorare (呼吁帮助、恳求、热切地乞求)进入英语,也是用来表示“恳求、乞求、哀求”,常用搭配 implore sb to do sth 并作正式用语使用,侧重指怀着深切的焦虑、殷切的关怀或极大的渴望恳求某人做某事。比如:
