深入解读
Propel 是一个与小站（微信公众号：田间小站）推送过的 dispel 和 expel 有着相同结尾也同词根 pel （推、逐、驱）的单词，三者可以一并联想记忆。
从词源上来看， propel 一词源自由前缀 pro- （向前、在前）+拉丁语 pellere （推动、驱动）构成而来的拉丁语 propellere （向前推动、向前驱动、向前行驶；移动、推动），最早于15世纪中期进入英语，起初用来表示“赶走、驱逐”，不过这一含义现已不再流行。
等到了1558年后， propel 开始主要用来表示“推动、驱动、推进”，常用被动语态，侧重指通过施加能产生运动的外力从而驱动或推动某物稳定、持续地向前。比如：
