从词源上来看， entice 一词源自古法语 enticier （煽风点火、激发、煽动），最早于13世纪末进入英语，也曾拼作 intice ，则是用来表示“诱使、诱惑、引诱、怂恿”，侧重指巧妙且娴熟地通过提供快乐或好处来唤起希望或欲望，从而吸引或诱惑某人做某事。比如：
- 别处丰厚的薪水诱使人们辞职另谋高就。
People are being enticed away from the profession by lucrative salaries elsewhere. - 葡萄发酵的香味使得人们闻香驻足，进入店内。
