深入解读
Evaporate 是一个与常见单词 corporate （全体的、共同的；公司的；联合的；企业集团）有着相同结尾的单词，两者可以一并联想记忆。
从词源上来看， evaporate 一词源自拉丁语 evaporare （分散在蒸气中），15世纪初由 evaporare 的过去分词 evaporatum 进入英语，即用来表示“（使）蒸发、（使）挥发”以及通过加热“（使）脱水、去除……中的水分”。比如：
- 加热直至水全部蒸发。
Heat until all the water has evaporated. - 湿气被吸到织物表面从而蒸发。
Moisture is drawn to the surface of the fabric so that it evaporates.
等到了17世纪10年代后， evaporate 开始用来引申指逐渐“（使）消失、（使）消散、（使）衰减”，侧重指像水变成蒸汽那般（使）某个东西悄无声息、不引人注意地完全逝去，也可以用来描述人偷偷摸摸、谨慎或突然地离去，并进一步引申指“死亡”。比如：
- 他的盛怒渐渐消失，想大哭一场。

值得注意的是，在物理学中， evaporate 还可以用来表示“放射、发射”中子、电子等，比如从原子核放射出中子（evaporate neutrons from a nucleus）。
