at death’s door

它出自迈尔斯·科弗代尔(Myles Coverdale,1488—1509)所译的《公祷书》(The Book of Common Prayer)中的“诗篇”(Psalm)第107章第18 段:

Their soul abhorred all manner of meat:and they were even hard at death’s door.
