Chagrin 是一个以小站(微信公众号:田间小站)推送过的 grin 结尾的单词,两者可以一并联想记忆。
从词源上来看, chagrin 源自古北部法语 chagreiner 或者安茹方言 chagraigner (使悲伤),17世纪50年代经法语 chagrin (悲伤、焦虑、烦恼)进入英语,原本也是用来表示“悲伤”,不过这一含义现已不再流行。
等到了1716年后, chagrin 开始发展出现在的主要含义指“懊恼、恼怒、苦恼、失望、悔恨”,常作正式用语使用,侧重指因事情没有以自己所期望的方式发生,伴随失败、犯错、失望、尴尬或被羞辱而来的烦恼或精神痛苦,比如:
