深入解读
Perverse 是一个与常见单词 pervert （使堕落、歪曲；行为反常者、性变态者）同源的单词，两者都源自于拉丁语 pervertere （使堕落）。
其中 perverse 于14世纪末经古法语 pervers （反常的、堕落的；任性的、逆反的）或者直接由 pervertere 的过去分词 perversus （远离正确的、错误的、恶意的、恶毒的）进入英语，先是用来表示“走上邪路的、变坏的、恶意的”，即道德上错误的或邪恶的，比如：
- 听说她姐姐要离婚，那个有毒的女人幸灾乐祸。
The toxic woman took a perverse pleasure in hearing that her elder sister was getting divorced.
从远离正确的概念出发，等到了16世纪60年代后， perverse 进而用来指“不合常理的、有悖常情的、不合人意的”，也就是与公认的或大多数人预期的标准或惯例相反的，比如：
- 跟人作对的鬼天气
perverse weather - 对于这种请愿不予支持是有悖常情的。
It would be perverse to refuse to support this plea.
这在法律上还可以表示判决等“不合法的、不正当的”，比如不合法裁定（a perverse verdict），亦称相反裁定，便是指陪审团罔顾事实或者不遵守法官的法律要点指示而按自己意志所作的裁定。
而从有悖常理硬按自己意志行事的概念出发，再到了16世纪70年代后， perverse 则开始发展出现在的主要含义指“故意作对的、任性的、犟的”，常意味着表现出故意且顽固地想要以大多数人认为错误、不合理或不可接受的方式行事，比如：

此外， perverse 也被非规范地用来表示“性变态的、性欲倒错的、性欲反常的”，但通常情况下这一含义主要使用单词 perverted 表示。
