Lucid 一词源自拉丁语 lucidus （本义指“明亮的、透明的”，喻指“清楚的、清晰的”），16世纪90年代进入英语后，相应也是用来表示“明亮的、光辉的”或“清澈的、透明的”，常作书面用语使用，强调既透明又发亮，比如：
