Ardent 是一个与小站(微信公众号:田间小站)推送过的 prudent, strident, dissident 等同样都是以 dent 结尾的单词,可以一并联想记忆。
该词源自拉丁语 ardere (燃烧)的过去分词 ardentem (本义指“发光的、火热的、闪耀的”,喻指“激情的”),14世纪初经古法语 ardant (灼热的;热情的) 进入英语后最初也是用来表示“炽热的、燃烧的、高热的”以及“发光的”,不过这一字面含义现已较少使用,比如:
