Ardent 是一个与小站（微信公众号：田间小站）推送过的 prudent, strident, dissident 等同样都是以 dent 结尾的单词，可以一并联想记忆。
该词源自拉丁语 ardere （燃烧）的过去分词 ardentem （本义指“发光的、火热的、闪耀的”，喻指“激情的”），14世纪初经古法语 ardant （灼热的；热情的） 进入英语后最初也是用来表示“炽热的、燃烧的、高热的”以及“发光的”，不过这一字面含义现已较少使用，比如：
