深入解读
Acquaint 是一个与小站（微信公众号：田间小站）推送过的 quaint 同根的单词，两者都源自于拉丁语 cognoscere （开始熟知）。
其中 acquaint 最早于13世纪初经古法语 acointer （使为人所知；结识或寻求结识）进入英语后，起初用来表示“使自己为人所知”，不过这个含义现已过时。
等到了14世纪初后， acquaint 开始常用搭配 be/get/become acquainted with sb 表示“认识、结识某人”，强调直接或本人认识，比如：
- 你们两个是怎样认识的?
How did you two become acquainted?
等到了16世纪中期后， acquaint 开始进一步常用搭配 acquaint sb/oneself with sth 作正式用语表示“使某人或自己认识、熟悉或了解某事”或者说“介绍某事给某人”，主要指通过介绍某件事的经过或者透露某件事的有关信息、情况等而使某人熟悉或直接了解该事，比如：
- 请把这事的实情告诉我。
Please acquaint me with the facts of the case. - 花些时间熟悉一下这些严格的规则。
Take time to acquaint yourself with the stringent rules.
