[adjective] feeling or expressing remorse or penitence; affected by guilt
with a humble and contrite heart - 这位身材苗条的少妇静听着这些悔罪的话。
The streamlined young woman listened attentively to these contrite words.
The timid hand stretched forth to aid
A brother in his need;
A kindly word in grief's dark hour
That proves a friend indeed;
The plea for mercy softly breathed,
When justice threatens high,
The sorrow of a contrite heart --
These things shall never die.
就足以证明朋友的真心;
