汉译英常见错误 | 究竟是长还是宽？

原文：她估计这条河从一边到另一边大约有50米长。
错译：She estimated the length from side to side of this river to be 50 metres.

正译：She estimated the breadth from side to side of this river to be 50 metres.
注解：虽然原文用的是“长”，但是实际上说的是河的“宽”，因此不能直译成 length ，而是转换为英语中的 breadth 。
