Scurry 是一个与 hurry, furry, flurry 等有着相同结尾的单词，可以一并联想记忆。不仅如此，从词源上来看， scurry 可能缩略自 hurry-scurry ，后者也就是 hurry 的重叠词。
最早于19世纪10年代出现后， scurry 便开始用来表示“碎步疾行、碎步快跑”，主要指人或小动物以小而快的碎步匆匆移动，常意味着步伐如老鼠、松鼠那般轻快利落，并且往往会在方向或速度上突然变化，比如：
