英译汉常见错误 | on the fire 正在考虑中，有待解决的

［例句］　Your application for the position is on the fire.
［误译］　你的求职申请书烧毁了。
［原意］　你的求职申请正在考虑中。
［说明］　on fire才有“着火”、“起火”之意，而on the fire则是美国俚语，意为“正在考虑中”、“有待解决的”。但也不是凡遇到on the fire都作此解，例如：He put some fuel on the fire（他在炉中添了些燃料），其中的on the fire就不是美国俚语，这里的fire意为“炉火”。
