英译汉常见错误 | not...until 直到……才……，在……以前不……

［例句］　They do not play cards until they have finished their work.
［误译］　他们直到完成了工作都不打纸牌。
［原意］　他们直到完成了工作才打纸牌。
［说明］　not...until 意为“直到……才……”、“在……以前不……”。句中的until也可用till代替，但当它在句首时，一般都用until而不用till。口语中，英国人多用till，美国人则多用until。
