英译汉常见错误 | both...not

［例句］　Both the children are not bright.
［误译］　两个小孩都不聪明。
［原意］　并非两个小孩都聪明。
［说明］　both...not意为“并非两者都”。上例也可写成Not both the children are bright。both...not是部分否定，而不是全部否定，全部否定则是Neither child is bright，意为“两个小孩都不聪明”。
