基本释义
[noun] an attractive or exciting quality that makes certain people or things seem appealing
She forsook the glamour of the city and went to live in a sedate country town. - 她现在是空中乘务员了,去国外旅行对她已失去吸引力。
Now that she's a flight attendant, foreign travel has lost its glamour for her.
这个词也常用来形容女性的“迷人的美、艳丽”,也就是一种性感的美丽或魅力,比如一位艳丽迷人的女演员(an actress with glamour)。
名著用例
How often had she looked at the well-dressed actresses on the stage and wondered how she would look, how delightful she would feel if only she were in their place. The glamour, the tense situation, the fine clothes, the applause, these had lured her until she felt that she, too, could act — that she, too, could compel acknowledgment of power.
当她看着舞台上衣服华丽的女演员时,她不止一次地想象如果她在台上演这个角色她会是什么样的,如果她处在她们的位子,心里又会多开心。辉煌的舞台魅力,紧张的情节,漂亮的戏装,还有观众的掌声,这一切深深地吸引着她,使她感到自己也能演戏——也能让别人承认她的才华。
