深入解读
Indebted 这个单词一眼看过去就会让人联想起熟词 debt 来。两者同源，都源自于古法语 dete （债务、欠款）。
其中 indebted 由前缀 in- （使……）+词根 debt （债务）+ 形容词后缀 -ed 构成，14世纪末由古法语 endetter （卷入债务、陷入债务）的过去分词 endetté 进入英语，即用来表示“负债的”，主要指某个国家、政府、组织等对其他国家、政府、组织等负债，比如：
- 该濒临破产的公司欠下银行巨额债务。The moribund company is heavily indebted to the bank.
说到负债借钱，中文有句俗话叫“借钱是情分，不借是本分”。反过来也可以说紧要关头借钱渡过难关之后，欠下的不只是债务，还有人情需要感恩。类似的道理，到了16世纪60年代后， indebted 开始引申指“蒙恩的、受惠的、感激的”，常用搭配 indebted to sb for (doing) sth 作正式用语使用，主要指对别人的帮助或服务表示感谢或认可，比如：
- 我深深感激所有治疗过我的医生和护士。
