Dissemble 是一个与熟词 similar 同词根 simil, simul(t), sembl (相类似、一样)的单词。其中, dissemble 由前缀 dis- (不一样)+词根 sembl (相类似、一样)构成。
该词源自拉丁语 dissimulare (使不一样、隐藏、伪装),15世纪初经古法语 dessembler 进入英语后,也是用来表示“掩盖、掩藏、掩饰”,常作正式用语使用,主要指隐藏自己的真实动机、意图、感情、思想、信仰以及事情的真相等,强调对人进行欺骗的意图,并且常意味着一旦被发现后将受到谴责,比如:
- 在需要时,亨利会毫不迟疑地伪装自己。他说的每句话都假惺惺的。
