Dissemble 是一个与熟词 similar 同词根 simil, simul(t), sembl （相类似、一样）的单词。其中， dissemble 由前缀 dis- （不一样）+词根 sembl （相类似、一样）构成。
该词源自拉丁语 dissimulare （使不一样、隐藏、伪装），15世纪初经古法语 dessembler 进入英语后，也是用来表示“掩盖、掩藏、掩饰”，常作正式用语使用，主要指隐藏自己的真实动机、意图、感情、思想、信仰以及事情的真相等，强调对人进行欺骗的意图，并且常意味着一旦被发现后将受到谴责，比如：
- 在需要时，亨利会毫不迟疑地伪装自己。他说的每句话都假惺惺的。
