Eligible 一词与熟词 election (选举)同源,都是源自拉丁语 eligere (选择),15世纪初经古法语 eligible (适合选择的)进入英语后即用来表示“有资格的、符合条件的、合格的”,常指人因具备相应的资格、年龄、能力等而有权做或获得某个事物,尤其是有资格选举或参选的,以及在法律或道德上合格的,比如:
