[noun] one's opponent in a contest, conflict, or dispute
She coveted his job so blatantly that conversations between them were tense. Hence, he saw her as his main adversary within the company.
"Your adversary has no warning about what kind of magic you're about to perform," said Hermione, "which gives you a split-second advantage."
罗琳创作的长篇小说《哈利·波特与混血王子》(Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince)。
