深入解读
Embody 这个单词比较好记，就是由前缀 em- （使）+词根 body （身体）构成，最早出现于16世纪40年代用来表示对灵魂或精神“赋予以形体、使实体化、使具有躯体”。
等到了17世纪60年代后， embody 开始发展出现在的主要含义指“体现、具体表现、使具体化”，多指给想法、品质、特点、感觉、原则等抽象的事物赋予有形的或可见的具体形式，比如：
- 这位代表黑人青年希望的政治家在艰苦的环境中锻造出了自己的独立性。
The politician who embodied the hopes of black youth forged his independence on the anvil of a harsh environment. - 在运动场上，那个身体灵活的女孩展现了优秀运动员的风采。
The supple girl embodied good sportsmanship on the playing field.
之所以能够体现某个抽象事物，无非是实物内在本身就包含了该抽象事物，因此反过来 embody 还可以进一步用作正式用语表示“包括、包含、收录、编入”，常意味着被包含的事物是作为组成部分存在，并和其他部分一起构成一个有序整体，比如：
- 那项充满和平精神的提案包含在了决议草案中。
The proposal imbued with the spirit of peace has been embodied in a draft resolution. - 那位著名科学家集科学、音乐、外语等方面的一系列非凡成就于一身。
That eminent scientist embodied in one man an unusual range of science, music, and foreign languages.
