在今年上半年推送的 小词详解 | crusade 中，小站曾提到 crusade 源自拉丁语 crux （十字）。而这个拉丁语直接进入英语就成了今天小站（微信公众号：田间小站）来和大家聊的 crux ，其本义即指纹章“十字架、十字形”。
不过早在其字面含义于1814年进入英语前， crux 就于1718年，可能是经拉丁语表达 crux interpretum （文本中无法解释的一点，字面意思指“口译员的十字路口”），先进入英语喻指某个特定的“疑难之事、难题、尚未解决的问题”，比如：
- 对立的统一是古代思想家们困惑不解的问题。
