深入解读
Gallop 一词源自古法语 galoper （马等飞跑疾驰），15世纪初期进入英语后也是表示此义，以及指“骑马奔驰或使马飞奔”，强调马以最快速度奔跑，这与形容“（马）小跑、慢跑”或“骑马慢跑”的 canter 和 trot 相对，比如：
- 当我们骑马从林中飞驰而过时，他被一匹脱缰的马踩死了。
When we were galloping through the woods, he was trampled to death by a runaway horse.
把这个概念引申用在人身上可以指“（人）飞奔、迅速奔跑”。而用在事物上时则表示“急速移动、快速行动”或者说“飞速发展、高速发展”，其中后者多指以一种快速且似乎不可控制的方式进行，比如：
- 她沿街飞奔而来，告诉我们她找到了一个轻松舒服的工作。
She came galloping down the street and told us that she had found a snug berth. - 尽管还处于萧条期，在提供优质服务的同时利润却迅猛增长。
In spite of the recession, profits have galloped ahead while rendering excellent service.
所谓“欲速则不达”，往往速度起来之后，质量就得不到保证，对于 gallop 来说就可以用动词短语 gallop through sth 表示“匆匆地做、草草地读、走马观花地看”，比如：
- 那个毫无经验的人快速干完他的工作，以便能早点离开办公室。
The man destitute of experience galloped through his work so that he could leave the office early.
另外， gallop 也可以用作名词表示与上述动词含义相对应的“（马的）飞奔、疾驰”“骑马奔驰”以及“高速度、高速行动、飞跃”等，比如：
- 我们不得不快马加鞭将苦活赶完。
We had to complete the toil at a gallop.
