深入解读
Plateau 一词源自法语 plateau （台地、高原），18世纪末进入英语后也是用来表示“高原”，比如我国最大、世界海拔最高的青藏高原就可以说“Qinghai-Tibet Plateau”。
中学地理告诉我们，青藏高原多高山，但相对高度较小。与之相似的是，到了19世纪末， plateau 开始出现在学习心理学（psychology of learning，教育心理学的一个重要分支）中，用来表示学习曲线中的“高原”，即学习上没有明显进展的阶段。
有些同学到达高原阶段后心里就会比较慌，束手无策，甚至影响心态。其实高原现象是客观存在的，可能源自长期紧张疲劳、学习方法死板或意志力薄弱，找准自己的问题所在加以改善，就会逐渐恢复学习效率并提高学习成绩。
而这个概念随后就泛化为发展或增长后的“稳定阶段、停滞时期”，当用作动词时自然表示活动、进程、成本等经过一段时间的发展后“达到稳定阶段、进入停滞时期”，比如：
- 石油市场因当天来自日内瓦的可疑报道出现了起伏。但现在似乎已到了停滞期。
