深入解读
Plausible 一词源自拉丁语 plaudere （鼓掌），由词根 plaus （拍手、鼓掌）+ 后缀 -ible （可……的 ）构成，16世纪40年代进入英语后原本用来表示“可以接受的、令人赞同的、值得鼓掌或同意的”，不过这个含义现已不再流行。
该词发展到今天更多的是用来表示论点、说法、解释等“貌似合理的、似乎真实可信的”，强调乍一看或乍一听时从表面上令人觉得真实、合理、可以接受，但并不暗示任何虚假欺骗的意图，只是意味着一种较大的可能性，比如：
- 他开始在护士面前痛斥那位医生。他的说辞听起来言之有理。
He proceeded to excoriate the doctor in front of the nurses. His story sounded perfectly plausible. - 我一进屋就把帽脱了。然后我站着不动，试图编个说得过去的借口。
I doused my hat on entering the house. Then I stood still, trying to invent a plausible excuse.
不过这个单词用来形容人时，就成了个贬义词，指人“巧言令色的、花言巧语的、巧舌如簧的”，强调善于提出有说服力的论据，尤指意图欺骗的论据，或者善于表现出真诚实在的样子，尤其是在试图欺骗他人时善于听起来让人觉得像是在讲真话，比如：
- 他用她自己的围巾把她勒死了。但他那么会花言巧语，以至于骗过了所有的人。
He strangled her with her own scarf. But he was so plausible that he conned everybody.
而 plausible 的衍生词 implausible 自然用来表示“似乎不合情理的、不像真实的”，与小站（微信公众号：田间小站）之前推送过的 untenable 近义。
