深入解读
Collate 这个单词看起来好似小站本月初推过的形容词 collateral 的原形，实际上两者除了前缀相同以外没有什么太大关系。
Collate 一词源自拉丁语 conferre （使在一起），由前缀 co-, col- （共同）+ 词根 lat （拿出、放）构成，17世纪进入英语后开始表示“集中起来进行比较，批判性地检查是否一致”，即今义“对照、核对、校勘”，强调通过细微的或批判性的比较来指出不同来源的信息的相同处和不同之处，尤其适用于对同一作品不同版本的书籍和手稿进行细微的比较，以确定或确立正确的文本，如：
- 他们已经开始整理自己有关种族歧视的统计数据。这些统计数据是通过多次研究收集得来的。
They have begun to collate their own statistics on racial abuse. These statistics have been gleaned from a number of studies. - 我花了一小段时间用早前的版本核对新版本。
