[noun] an optical illusion caused by atmospheric conditions, especially the appearance of a sheet of water in a desert or on a hot road caused by the refraction of light from the sky by heated air
Through my half-closed eyelids I began to see mirages. Moments later, a whiff of fresh air cleared my head.
The avid reader was imbued with a desire for social justice. But for him, electoral victory was just a distant mirage. -
The docile girl was a mirage, cast up by his troubled mind.
